The NICU cares for babies who need extra support after birth, such as those born early, with low birth weight, breathing difficulty, infection or jaundice. Continuous monitoring helps the team notice changes early and respond quickly.
Support available for newborns
- Continuous monitoring of heart rate, breathing and oxygen levels
- Temperature support in incubators or warmers
- Respiratory support when a baby has difficulty breathing
- Phototherapy for newborn jaundice
- Feeding support, including breast milk and tube feeding when required
- Kangaroo mother care once the baby is stable
Information for parents
Parents are updated regularly and are encouraged to take part in the baby’s care. Please follow infection-control rules such as hand hygiene, and ask the team about visiting arrangements.
