About Vaccination & Preventive Care
Vaccines protect children from serious infections such as tuberculosis, polio, hepatitis B, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, pneumonia and meningitis. Timely vaccination, combined with regular check-ups, is one of the most effective ways to keep children healthy.
What our vaccination and preventive care covers
- Birth-dose vaccines and vaccines for the first year of life
- Routine immunisation as per the national and IAP-recommended schedules
- Additional vaccines such as those for typhoid, chickenpox, influenza, hepatitis A and HPV, when advised
- Catch-up vaccination for children who missed doses
- Growth, weight and development checks at each visit
- Advice on nutrition, safe sleep, hygiene and injury prevention
What to expect at a vaccination visit
The pediatrician checks that your child is well enough for vaccination, explains which vaccines are due and what side effects are normal, and obtains your consent. After the injection, children are observed for a short while. Mild fever, redness or soreness at the site, and fussiness can occur and usually settle in a day or two. You will receive a vaccination record and the next due date.
Tips for parents
- Bring the vaccination card to every visit
- Feed the baby before vaccination and keep them comfortable
- Tell the doctor about allergies, previous reactions, current illness or medicines
- Do not skip a dose because of a minor cold; ask the doctor if it is safe to vaccinate
- Keep the child’s record safe, as it is needed for school and travel
When to contact us after vaccination
Call the doctor if fever is very high or lasts more than two days, if there is persistent crying, swelling that keeps increasing, breathing difficulty or a rash.
