About Fertility Testing & Diagnosis
Finding the reason behind delayed pregnancy is the first step of any fertility plan. Fertility testing looks at both partners, because in many couples the cause is shared or lies with the male partner. At Sparsh Mother & Child Hospital in Varanasi, tests are planned step by step so that you only undergo the investigations that are actually needed.
Tests commonly advised for women
- Hormone profile such as FSH, LH, AMH, TSH and prolactin, depending on the case
- Pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound to study the uterus, ovaries and follicles
- Antral follicle count to estimate ovarian reserve
- Tubal patency assessment when a blockage is suspected
- Screening for conditions such as PCOS, fibroids, polyps or endometriosis
Tests commonly advised for men
- Semen analysis (count, motility, shape and volume)
- Hormone tests when the semen report is abnormal
- Clinical examination and scrotal ultrasound if needed
- Advanced sperm tests in selected cases
What to expect
The first visit includes a detailed history of cycles, previous treatment, lifestyle and medical conditions. Some tests must be done on specific days of the menstrual cycle, and semen analysis needs a short abstinence period, so our team will guide you on timing and preparation. Reports are reviewed together with the doctor, and you receive a clear explanation and a suggested treatment path, which may be lifestyle changes, ovulation induction, IUI or IVF.
When to get tested
Book an evaluation after 12 months of trying to conceive, or after 6 months if the woman is 35 or above. Do not wait if you have very irregular periods, painful periods, a history of pelvic infection, previous pregnancy loss or known male-factor problems.
