Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) uses a micromanipulation set-up to select a single healthy sperm and inject it directly into a mature egg. It is one of the most important techniques in modern IVF for male-factor infertility.
Where ICSI helps
- Low sperm count, poor motility or abnormal shape
- Sperm retrieved surgically from the testis or epididymis
- Previous failed or poor fertilisation in IVF
- Use of frozen sperm samples with limited numbers
