PGT involves testing a few cells from an IVF embryo to look for chromosomal abnormalities or specific inherited conditions. It is offered only after genetic counselling and only when medically appropriate.
Types of PGT
- PGT-A: screens for chromosome number
- PGT-M: tests for a known single-gene condition
- PGT-SR: assesses structural chromosome rearrangements

PGT does not guarantee a healthy pregnancy and is not needed for everyone. Selecting the sex of the baby is prohibited by law and is never offered.
